DAYCARE FAQS

Q – WHAT EXACTLY IS DOGGY DAYCARE??

Doggy Daycare functions much like a daycare center for children. Our Daycare facility provides a safe and structured environment in which your dog has the opportunity to socialize and exercise with other dogs throughout the day. It enables your pet to do dog stuff while you are busy doing human stuff. Supervised interaction with other canine friends gives them the opportunity to expand their doggie social skills while controlling their pack skills.

Q – WHAT DOES MY DOG DO ALL DAY?

Your dog will spend their day running, playing, wrestling and socializing (with both humans and other dogs). It is not uncommon for them to return home tired and happy after a full day of activities. Our daily schedule includes playtime, socialization, snacks and nap time. Activities may vary each day based on weather conditions. Remember, A Happy Dog is a Tired Dog!.

Q – DOES MY DOG HAVE TO ATTEND EVERY DAY?

No. Some of our daycare guests attend only once, twice or three times a week, while others come every day. You decide the number of days according to your busy schedule. We do request that you let us know which days of the week you prefer in advance so that we are able to accommodate your pet.

Q – DO I HAVE TO COMMIT TO A REGULAR SCHEDULE?

No, but remember, just like a child daycare we have limitations on the number of dogs we can accommodate. Last minute drop-offs are more than welcome if space is available. Please call ahead to confirm we can take him or her that day.

Q – DO YOU ACCEPT ALL BREEDS?

While all dogs are welcome to trial for daycare, not all dogs are good candidates for the program. Owners must verify that their dog has not harmed or shown aggression toward people or other dogs in the past. If your dog displays aggression we may be forced to expel him/her from daycare for the safety of our other clients.

Q – IS MY DOG SUPERVISED DURING DAYCARE?

Yes, we have multiple caring and compassionate staff members on site each day. You can rest assured your furry friend will be in good hands while in our care.

Q – I HAVE A SMALL DOG, WILL SHE BE SAFE?

Absolutely! While some smaller dogs enjoy running and playing with the big dogs, we have a special area for smaller breeds and puppies. In this “home like” atmosphere they have the ability to interact with friends more their size. Our staff will monitor throughout the day to assure all dogs are playing safely. They also enjoy supplying those special hugs little dogs love.

Q – WHERE DOES MY DOG GO POTTY?

We take our daycare guests outside to do their “business” multiple times per day. If an “accident” occurs while they are inside, our daycare staff is with the dogs at all times and will immediately clean up after them.

Q – IT’S MY DOG’S FIRST TIME AT DAYCARE, WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

During your initial interview you’ll need to supply your pet’s current vaccination records. At that time you will be given the appropriate forms to be completed and returned on or before your dog’s first day of daycare.  You will bring your dog on leash (for safety while going between your car and our facility) along with any meals you would like them to have throughout the day. Everything else will be supplied by “The Dog House”.

Q – WHAT HAPPENS AT THE INTERVIEW?

You will be given a tour of our facility. We will then discuss and review pertinent information specific to your pet. More importantly, your dog will be introduced to a few new playmates to observe how he/she reacts to other dogs and ensure they possess the correct temperament to participate in daycare.

Q – DO YOU FEED MY DOG DURING DAYCARE?

Only if requested and provided by the owner. If your dog has special dietary needs, simply supply his food or treats and his/her eating schedule. There is no extra cost to feed your pet while in daycare. We do provide minimal “all natural” treats throughout the day.

Q – MY DOG HAS SPECIAL NEEDS. WILL THIS COST EXTRA?

No, most medications and special dietary needs will be handled at no extra cost to you. We will NOT administer injections to your pet. Dogs with handicaps are always welcome at daycare and will be placed in an appropriate playgroup.

Q – ARE OLDER DOGS WELCOME?

Yes! We welcome all ages. Older or handicapped pets will be placed in appropriate playgroups or if they prefer to relax alone, they will be placed in a low traffic area where they can rest, nap or watch TV in comfort.

Q – WHAT IF MY DOG BECOMES ILL DURING DAYCARE?

We will call you immediately if your dog shows any signs of illness. In emergencies, we will utilize a nearby, trusted veterinarian with your consent.

Q – WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TAKING MY DOG TO DOG DAYCARE?

Daycare provides numerous benefits. Dogs are generally social animals and derive pleasure in interaction with people and other canines. At Daycare they’ll learn to get along with others, get plenty of exercise, and just enjoy having some good old fashioned fun! When you pick your dog up at the end of their day, he/she will be exhausted and happy from a full day of exercise and activities. It will provide you with peace of mind knowing your dog is being entertained in a safe and healthy environment while you’re gone – rather than displaying bad behavior (such as chewing, digging, or barking excessively) when left home alone.

Q – ARE THE DOGS INDOORS OR OUTSIDE MOST OF THE TIME?

During cold and inclement weather, our Doggy Daycare friends spend most of the day inside our heated facility, except for bathroom breaks.  Most days however, your dog will spend part of his/her day playing outside in our fenced in play yard.
In the extreme heat of the summer they will enjoy staying indoors in the AC.

Q – DO THE DOGS HAVE TOYS TO PLAY WITH?

We have numerous “tough stuff” balls, and other safe toys to satisfy their urge to play fetch and catch (or chew). While playing, your dog will learn the importance of sharing with others.

Q – IS THE FACILITY CLEAN?

Yes!  We clean and sanitize the daycare on a daily basis. We take pride in knowing we are one of the cleanest Doggie Daycare facilities in the area. We invite you to stop in anytime to check for yourself.

Q – DO YOU HAVE A TIME OUT AREA?

At times a dog may need to be separated from the others if the play gets a bit too rough or they just require some “alone time”. We have several large kennels inside our facility where a dog can enjoy a time-out.

Q – DO YOU OFFER HALF DAY OPTIONS?

Yes. If you would like your dog to spend a partial day with us while you run errands, we’ll gladly welcome him/her.  Please call to ensure we have space available if you haven’t pre-scheduled your dog’s time.

Q – WILL MY DOG NEED TO BE VACCINATED?

Your dog must be current on all required vaccinations such as rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kennel cough). You will be required to show proof of vaccination. Pennsylvania State Law also requires an up to date Dog License. These are obtained yearly through your local county unless your dog has a “Lifetime” license. We are required to have a copy of their license numbers on file.

Q – MUST MY DOG BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED?

To avoid any undesirable behavior, we do require that your dog is spayed or neutered once they are of age. Non-altered dogs are generally more aggressive and females in heat can cause tension and fights between male dogs.

Q – DO DOGS GO THROUGH ANY SCREENING BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO ATTEND DOGGY DAYCARE?

We asses all dogs for proper temperament before they are allowed to participate in daycare. Dogs must be able to play nicely and be in good health.

Q – WHAT ARE THE AREAS FOR THE DOG TO PLAY?

We have both indoor and outdoor areas complete with everything your pet needs to be safe and comfortable. Our caring and compassionate staff will keep your pet occupied and provide all the exercise and attention they need.

Q – DO YOU OFFER PUPPY DAYCARE?

Yes, we offer puppy daycare for puppies 12 weeks old and up. Puppies must be current on their distemper / parvo vaccine based on their age. Bordetella vaccine is highly recommended.
